A Time To Honour The Ancestors
Hallowe'en Season
By Heather Home
At this time of year the energies of our northern clime are noticeably shifting. The days get shorter and cooler, of course, our plant-life is either dying off or slowing down, and our animal-life is either migrating or prepping for the cold winter months ahead.
To those of us whose sensitivities are hale and used day in and out, we may notice some shifts beyond those of the physical world. Something seems to be blowing in the wind. We may notice a change of pace to life, our natural rhythms may become either more fluid or more sluggish. While we are open to Spirit all year long, messages and connections may seem to increase as the cooler temperatures set in and the heating systems of our homes kick on. Not a coincidence that we celebrate the change of the seasons and the warding off of any unfriendly entities --- the veil is thin indeed, and not just for a single day, not just for Hallowe'en.
Stag Night, October 30th honours rutting season and the primal need to ensure that life will continue next spring. All Hallow's Eve has morphed into a playful celebration, poking fun at Death with revelry, light, and colour. All's Hallow Day is often a little more sedate than the night before and a good day to remember to honour the ancestors. It doesn't stop there. Dia De Los Muertos (Day Of The Dead) is a 2-day holy celebration November 1st & 2nd reuniting Loved Ones across the veil. November 11th Remembrance Day, is our dedicated day to honour those who went before us sacrificing so that we may live in a time of peace, a day when, inevitably, I get a bit choked up during ceremonies.
For myself, not only do I notice an increase in what we might call paranormal activity at this time of year, such as bumps in the night and the swirling winds that bring forth drama and chaos, I also notice an increase in communication from my Loved Ones and the ancestors who have gone before me. I wake from dreams of loving visits, or family karma not yet completed, or memories and reminders... messages abound daily for a season.
At home I have what I call a Wall Of Honour... a collection of photos of family, of my teachers, and a paper plaque on which I write in gold or silver the names of those I've known, human and pet, who have passed on to the other side. All year 'round I appreciate those upon the wall yet, at this time of year, certain images or names will seem to grab my attention more so. Their tenure draws me and I make an increased effort to share the love, help to heal, and heal myself.
Today and tomorrow and many days this season, I light a candle in honour. I feel the sacredness of life and respect for death. I cozy in and sip my tea, mentally digesting the messages received and send out my well-wishes to all I've known. May blessings be upon you and your family, me and mine --- and may the world know peace.
